VIRCONEL is an open-source tool (LGPL) for network virtualization. It includes a graphical tool to design complex network environments. VIRCONEL features support for multiple physical hosts: a user can arbitrarily assign any virtual host to any physical host, and VIRCONEL will then virtualize the whole designed network over several available physical hosts with respect for the designed topology.
Once the virtualization is started, user can access all virtual elements by simply clicking on their icons. Besides, user can break and repair any designed link.
With these features, VIRCONEL can be used to simulate deployment and failure scenarios in the context of scientific research and experiments, e.g. for testing new protocols, ideas or implementations, but also for teaching in different areas of information technology (networking, security, ...).
